How to set up IPTV on an Android TV box & Google TV

Android TV and Google TV are among the smoothest platforms for IPTV: apps come from Google Play, updates are automatic and most devices decode 4K efficiently.

Compatible devices

  • Sony Bravia and TCL Google TV sets
  • Chromecast with Google TV (HD and 4K)
  • Google TV Streamer
  • NVIDIA Shield TV
  • Android TV 9 or newer

Steps

  1. Sign in to Google Play

Make sure the device is signed in with your Google account and connected to the internet.

  2. Install the player app

Open Google Play (or search with the remote’s microphone) and install the app named in your activation email.

  3. Open the app and activate

Enter your activation details exactly as shown in the email.

  4. Turn on frame-rate matching

Google TV: Settings → Display & Sound → Advanced display settings → Match content frame rate. This keeps motion smooth.

  5. Set your time zone

In the app settings, choose your Canadian time zone so the guide lines up with local time.

  6. Add it to your home screen

Highlight the app, hold OK and move it to the first row for one-press access.

Frequently asked questions

Which Android TV device works best?

Any current Google TV device works well. For 4K, choose a 4K model with at least 2 GB of RAM and, ideally, an Ethernet port.

Can I use voice search?

Voice search works for finding and opening the app. Searching inside the app depends on the app itself.
